What is a Hiatal Hernia?

Occurs when the upper part of the stomach bulges through the diaphragm into the chest cavity via the esophageal hiatus.

Types:

  • Sliding hiatal hernia (most common)

  • Paraesophageal hernia (more serious, risk of strangulation)
